General notes
Thermotronic is only operational when the engine is running. Optimum operation is only achieved when you drive with the side windows and panorama louvred sliding sunroof* closed.
You can allow the air-conditioning system to adjust automatically or you can adjust it manually.
 | |
Ventilate the vehicle for a brief period during warm weather, e.g. using the summer opening feature more. This helps you to achieve the desired interior temperature more quickly.
The integrated filter filters out most particles of dust and completely filters out pollen.
 | |
A clogged filter reduces the amount of air supplied to the vehicle interior. For this reason, you should always observe the interval for replacing the filter, which is specified in the Service Booklet. As it depends on environmental conditions, e.g. heavy air pollution, the interval may be slightly shorter than stated in the Service Booklet.
 | Risk of accident |
Follow the settings recommended on the following pages for heating or cooling. The windows could otherwise mist up. This may prevent you from observing the traffic conditions, thereby causing an accident.
Activating/deactivating Thermotronic*
Make sure that the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.
To activate: press the button.

When Thermotronic is deactivated, the air supply and air circulation are also switched off. Select this setting when you drive with the side windows or the panorama louvred sunroof* open, for example. Select this setting only briefly if the side windows and the panorama louvred sunroof* are closed, otherwise the windows may mist up.
Controlling the air conditioning automatically
 | |
If you switch the air conditioning to automatic mode, you will only rarely need to adjust the temperature, airflow or air distribution. The cooling with dehumidification function is switched on in automatic mode. If necessary, cooling with dehumidification can be deactivated.
Make sure that the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.

Air-recirculation mode
You can deactivate the flow of fresh air if unpleasant odours are entering the vehicle from outside. No more fresh air will be taken in and the air inside the vehicle will be recirculated.
 | Risk of accident |
Only switch over to air-recirculation mode briefly if the outside temperature is low. Otherwise, the windows could mist up, thus impairing visibility and endangering yourself and others. This may prevent you from observing the traffic conditions, thereby causing an accident.
To activate: briefly press the button.
| |
The indicator lamp in the button is lit.
 | |
Air-recirculation mode is activated automatically at high outside temperatures. When air-recirculation mode is activated automatically, the indicator lamp in the button is not lit.
Outside air is added after about 30 minutes.
To deactivate: press the button.
| |
The indicator lamp in the button is off.
 | |
Air-recirculation mode switches off automatically:
-
after approximately five minutes at outside temperatures below approximately 7 °C
-
after approximately five minutes if the cooling with dehumidification function is deactivated
-
after approximately 30 minutes at outside temperatures above approximately 5 °C

Air-recirculation mode with convenience opening/closing feature*
 | Risk of injury |
Make sure that nobody can become trapped between the side window and the door frame as the side windows are opened and closed. Do not place objects or lean against the side window when it is being opened or closed. You or the objects could be drawn in or become trapped between the side window and the door frame as the window moves. If there is a risk of entrapment, release the button. If necessary, press the switch to stop, open or close the side window in the opposite direction.

 | |
If you open a side window or the panorama louvred sliding sunroof* manually after closing using the convenience closing feature, they will remain in this position when opened using the convenience opening feature.
Residual heat/auxiliary ventilation
It is possible to make use of the residual heat of the engine to continue heating the stationary vehicle for up to 30 minutes after the engine has been switched off. The heating time depends on the coolant temperature and on the interior temperature that has been set.
 | |
If you activate residual heat at high temperatures, only the ventilation is activated.

the ignition is switched on
-
the battery voltage drops
-
the coolant temperature is too low
Cooling with air-dehumidification
 | Risk of accident |
If you deactivate the cooling function with air dehumidification, the vehicle will not be cooled in warm weather and the air will not be dehumidified. The windows could mist up more quickly. This may prevent you from observing the traffic conditions, thereby causing an accident.
 | Environmental note |
The cooling system uses the refrigerant R134A. This refrigerant does not damage the earth's ozone layer.
 | |
Condensation may drip from the underside of the vehicle when Thermatic is in cooling mode.
Cooling with dehumidification is operational when the engine is running, and cools according to the interior temperature selected. The air inside the vehicle is also dried, thereby preventing the windows from misting up.
To activate: press the button.
| |
The indicator lamp in the button is lit. The cooling with dehumidification function is activated.
To deactivate: press the button.
| |
The indicator lamp in the button is off. The cooling with dehumidification function has a delayed switch-off feature.
Rear-compartment air conditioning
You can set the airflow and air direction individually using the rear-compartment air vents more.
You can set the temperature and blower speed using the front control panel more.
 | |
The temperature of the air from the rear-compartment centre air vents is the same as the temperature of the air from the centre air vents on the dashboard.
