On-board computerQuick Access Points to rememberThe on-board computer is activated as soon as the key is turned to position 1 in the ignition lock. You can use the on-board computer to call up information relating to your vehicle and to make and adjust settings. You can call up the next service due date, select the display language for the instrument cluster and set other functions.
The on-board computer shows information in the multi-function display. Multi-function steering wheelYou can control the multi-function display and the settings in the on-board computer with the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.
Several functions are combined thematically in the menus. For example, the Audio*/DVD* menu contains functions for operating the radio* or CD player*. The functions can be used either to look up information or to change settings for your vehicle. You can think of the configuration of the menus and the functions within a menu as a circle: Unlike other menus, the Settings menu contains a number of submenus more. The number of menus depends on the equipment in your vehicle. Multi-function displayThe multi-function display shows you values and settings as well as any display messages that may have been generated.
Menus and submenus
This is what the displays look like when you scroll through the menus. The generic terms in the table overview are intended to help you navigate through the menus. The terms themselves are not always displayed in the multi-function display. For the Audio 5*, the on-board computer displays the Audio* and Telephone* menus in English. The language for these menus is not dependent on the language selected for the multi-function display. Audio 20*, Audio 50 APS* and COMAND APS*: Depending on the audio system* fitted, the Audio*, Navigation* and Telephone* menus are slightly different. The examples given in this Owner's Manual apply to vehicles equipped with COMAND APS*. Operation menuUse the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.

If the audio equipment* or COMAND APS* is switched off, the multi-function display shows the AUDIO OFF message (Audio 20, Audio 50 APS* and COMAND APS*: Audio off).

Message memory menuPrevious display messages can be called up in the Message memory menu. You will only see the Message memory menu if there are any display messages. Switching off the ignition clears the Message memory except for the highest priority display messages. The on-board computer will delete these display messages only after the reason for the message has been rectified.

Settings menuIn the Settings menu, you can use the To reset: Press reset button for 3 seconds function to restore most settings to the factory settings. There are also submenus in which you can make individual settings for your vehicle.

Setting the date and time
Depending on the audio system* fitted, time and date are received from GPS satellites and therefore cannot be set using the on-board computer; see the following table.

If you have selected constant headlamp mode and the light switch is set to the In countries in which constant headlamp mode is a legal requirement, Constant is the factory setting.
Switching the surround lighting* on/off.If the surround lighting is switched on, the following lights will be switched on automatically in the dark after you have unlocked the vehicle using the key: The surround lighting switches off automatically if you open the driver's door or after 40 seconds.
Activating or deactivating the exterior lighting delayed switch-off*Using the Headl. delayed switch-off function, you can set whether the exterior lighting should remain on when it is dark for 15 seconds after the doors are closed. If none of the doors are opened after the engine is switched off or if an open door is not closed, the exterior lighting goes out after 60 seconds. When you have set a delayed switch-off time and then switch off the engine, the following remain lit: To temporarily deactivate the delayed switch-off:
Delayed switch-off is reactivated as soon as you restart the engine. Activating or deactivating the interior lighting delayed switch-offUsing the Inter. lighting delay.sw.off function you can set whether the interior lighting should remain on when it is dark for 10 seconds after the key is removed from the ignition lock. Setting the radio station selection*This function is only available in conjunction with Audio 5*. You can use the Audio search function to set whether a new station is to be searched for or whether a stored station is to be selected every time you operate the radio*. If the Frequency setting is selected, the station search is started. If the Memory setting is selected, the next stored station is selected.
Activating/deactivating the automatic door locking featureThe Automatic door lock function allows you to set whether your vehicle will lock centrally from a speed of about 15 km/h upwards.
Activating or deactivating the fold-in mirrors when locking* functionThe Fold in mirr. when locking function allows you to determine whether the exterior mirrors should fold in when you lock the vehicle. If you unlock the vehicle and then open the driver's or front-passenger door, the exterior mirrors fold out again. If you have switched the function on and you fold in the exterior mirrors using the button on the door more, they will not fold out automatically. The exterior mirrors can then only be folded out using the button on the door. Trip computer menuYou can use the Trip computer menu to call up or reset statistical data for your vehicle.

If the vehicle is parked for more than 4 hours, the From start consumption statistics are reset (key in position 0 of the ignition lock or removed). The values will not be reset if you turn the key to position 1 or 2 during this time. Consumption statistics from the last resetThe values refer to the last reset of the function.
Resetting the consumption statistics
The From start consumption statistics are reset automatically after 999 hours or 9,999 kilometres. The From reset consumption statistics are reset automatically after 9,999 hours or 99,999 kilometres. Calling up the rangeTelephone menu*Functions and displays are dependent on the optional equipment installed in your vehicle. You can place your mobile phone in the mobile phone cradle* more, or set up a Bluetooth connection to the audio system* or COMAND APS* (see the separate operating instructions).

Mobile phone onPIN code not yet enteredOnce you have inserted the mobile phone into the mobile phone cradle* the multi-function display shows the Enter PIN: message. Mobile phone operationalThe multi-function display shows the Ready message or the name of the GSM network provider. If the operational readiness symbol goes out, your vehicle is outside the transmission and reception range. Accepting a callIf someone calls you while you are in the Telephone menu, the following message appears in the multi-function display:
Rejecting or ending a callDialling a number from the phone bookIf your mobile phone is operational, you can select and dial a number from the phone book at any time. It is only possible to enter new numbers into the phone book using the mobile phone. Please refer to the separate operating instructions for notes on how to do this. RediallingThe on-board computer stores the last phone numbers which were dialled. |
