Locking/unlocking in an emergency

Emergency key

If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked or locked with the key or the KEYLESS GO key*, use the emergency key element.

If you use the emergency key element to unlock and open the driver's door or the boot lid, the anti-theft alarm system* will be triggered more.

There are several ways to turn off the alarm:

  

Press the  or button on the key.

or
  

Insert the key into the ignition lock.

or
  

Press the KEYLESS GO button* in the ignition lock. The KEYLESS GO key* must be in the vehicle.

or
  

Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS GO*. The KEYLESS GO key* must be outside the vehicle.

If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency key element, the fuel filler flap will not be unlocked automatically.

  

To unlock the fuel filler flap: insert the key in the ignition lock.

Push release catch  in the direction of the arrow and at the same time remove emergency key element  from the key.

 

Unlocking the vehicle

If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked centrally with the key or the KEYLESS GO key*:

  

Remove the emergency key element from the key more.

To unlock
  

Insert the emergency key element into the lock of the driver's door as far as it will go.

  

Turn the emergency key element anti-clockwise to position .

 

The door is unlocked.

 

On right-hand-drive vehicles, turn the emergency key element clockwise.

  

Turn the emergency key element back and remove it.

 

Locking the vehicle

If the vehicle can no longer be locked centrally with the key or the KEYLESS GO key*:

  

Open the driver's door.

  

Close the front-passenger door, the rear doors and the boot lid/tailgate.

  

Press the locking button more.

  

Check whether the locking knobs on the doors are still visible. Press the locking knobs down manually if necessary.

  

Close the driver's door.

  

Remove the emergency key element from the key more.

To lock
  

Insert the emergency key element into the lock of the driver's door as far as it will go.

  

Turn the emergency key element clockwise as far as it will go to position .

 

On right-hand-drive vehicles, turn the emergency key element anti-clockwise.

  

Turn the emergency key element back and remove it.

  

Check whether the doors and the boot lid/tailgate are locked.

 

Opening the boot

The boot lid swings upwards when opened. Therefore, make sure that there is enough space above the boot lid.

If the boot can no longer be unlocked with the key or the KEYLESS GO key*:

  

Remove the emergency key element from the key more.

Basic position
To unlock the boot

Boot lock

  

Insert the emergency key element fully into the boot lock.

  

Turn the emergency key element anti-clockwise as far as it will go to position .

 

The boot is unlocked.

  

Turn the emergency key element back to basic position  and remove it.

 

Opening the tailgate

If the tailgate cannot be opened, use the emergency release on the inside of the tailgate.

  

Take the emergency key element out of the key more.

The tailgate swings upwards and to the rear when opened. Therefore, make sure that there is sufficient clearance above and behind the tailgate.

  

Insert emergency key element  into opening in trim .

  

Turn emergency key element  90° clockwise.

  

Push emergency key element  in the direction of arrow and open the tailgate.

 

Emergency fuel filler flap release

Risk of injury

The edges on the inside of the vehicle body can be sharp. You could injure yourself when using the fuel filler flap emergency release. Avoid contact with the edges on the inside of the vehicle body.

The emergency release is located on the right-hand side, when viewed in the direction of travel, behind the fuse box in the boot/luggage compartment.

  

Open the boot lid/tailgate.

  

Saloon: open the right-hand side trim panel more.

  

Estate: open the right-hand side trim panel more.

Pull emergency release .

 

The fuel filler flap is unlocked.

  

Open the fuel filler flap.

 

Releasing the parking lock manually (vehicles with automatic transmission*)

In the event of an electrical fault, it is possible to release the selector lever lock manually to move it out of position P, e.g. if you wish to tow the vehicle away.

Depress the parking brake firmly.

  

Press selector lever cover to the left and remove it upwards.

  

Press release button down and simultaneously move the selector lever out of position P.

 

The selector lever can now be moved freely until it is returned to position P.
