On-board computer (vehicles with 12-button luxury multi-function steering wheel*)

Points to remember

The on-board computer is activated as soon as the key is turned to position 1 in the ignition lock. You can use the on-board computer to call up information relating to your vehicle and to make and adjust settings.

Risk of accident

Only use the on-board computer when road and traffic conditions permit. You would otherwise be distracted and unable to concentrate properly on driving, and could cause an accident.

Use the buttons on the luxury multi-function steering wheel to operate the on-board computer.

In the Tel* (telephone) menu: switches to the telephone book and selects a name or telephone number.

 

Press and hold: in the Audio* menu selects the next or previous station and selects an audio track or video scene* using the fast scrolling feature.
In the Tel* menu (telephone): starts rapid scrolling through the telephone book.

 

Confirms selections and hides display messages

Several functions are combined thematically in the menus. For example, the Settings menu contains functions for adjusting settings on your vehicle. The functions can be used either to look up information or to change settings for your vehicle.

The arrangement of the menus can be envisaged as a circle.

The number of menus shown depends on the optional equipment in the vehicle.

The Audio*, Navi* and Tel* menus are displayed slightly differently in vehicles with audio equipment* and vehicles with COMAND APS*. The examples given in this Owner's Manual apply to vehicles equipped with COMAND APS*.

The From start trip computer is automatically reset if the trip is interrupted for longer than 4 hours. It is automatically reset if the trip exceeds 999 hours or 9,999 kilometres.

The values in the From reset submenu refer to the last time the submenu was reset.

  

Press the or button to select the Trip menu.

The From reset trip computer is automatically reset if the trip exceeds 9,999 hours or 99,999 kilometres.

Displays the range and current fuel consumption

The approximate range which can be covered depends on the tank's contents and your current driving style. If there is only a small amount of fuel left in the tank, the display shows a vehicle being refuelled instead of the range .

Press the or button to select the Trip menu.

Resetting

You can reset the following functions:

  • Trip meter

  • Trip computer from start

  • Trip computer from reset

  

Press the or button to select the Trip menu.

  

Press the or button to select the function that you wish to reset.

  

Press the button.

  

Press the button to select yes and press the button to confirm.

 

AMG* menu

These functions are only available on AMG vehicles.

Engine oil temperature
Coolant temperature

Shift UP instruction indicates that the engine has reached the overrevving range. Shift UP instruction blocks other messages in the multi-function display until you have shifted up.

The engine oil temperature gauge flashes if the engine oil temperature has not reached 80 . Avoid driving at full engine output during this time.

SETUP

SETUP shows the gearshift program and the ESP® mode.

  

Press the or button to select the AMG menu.

  

Press the button repeatedly until SETUP is displayed.

RACETIMER

The RACETIMER allows time measurements to be saved.

While you have the RACETIMER displayed, you will not be able to adjust the volume using the and buttons.

  

Press the or button to select the AMG menu.

  

Press the button repeatedly until the RACETIMER appears.

You can start the RACETIMER when the engine is running or if the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.

  

To start: press the button to start the RACETIMER.

  

To display the intermediate time: press the button to show the intermediate time.

 

The intermediate time is displayed for five seconds.

  

To stop: press the button to stop the RACETIMER.

The RACETIMER interrupts timing when you stop the vehicle and turn the key to position 1 in the ignition lock. When you turn the key to position 2 or 3 and then press the button, timing is continued.

Storing the lap time and starting a new lap

It is possible to store a maximum of sixteen laps.

  

Press the button to show the intermediate time during timing.

 

The intermediate time is displayed for five seconds.

  

Press the button again within 5 seconds.

 

The displayed intermediate time is stored as a lap time.

Timing starts for a new lap. The new lap is timed from when the intermediate time is called up.

Press the button to stop the RACETIMER.

  

Press the button to reset the lap time to "0".

Deleting all laps

It is not possible to delete a single stored lap on its own.

  

Press the button to stop the RACETIMER.

  

Press the button.

 

The multi-function display shows Reset Race-Timer?.

  

Press the button to select YES and press the button to confirm.

 

All laps are deleted.

Overall evaluation

This function is only available if you have stored at least one lap and have stopped the RACETIMER.

  

Press the or button to select the AMG menu.

  

Press the button repeatedly until the overall evaluation appears.

Each lap is shown in a separate submenu. The fastest lap is indicated by flashing symbol .

When a change of direction is announced, you will see the symbol for the change of direction and beside it a graphical distance display . This decreases in size as you approach the announced change of direction.

On multiple-lane roads, a lane recommendation may be shown for the next change of direction. There may be additional lanes during a change of direction.

Navigation status indicators in the multi-function display

When route guidance is activated, the following messages may appear:

  • : you have reached the destination.

  • New route... or Calculating route: Calculating a new route

  • Off map or Off road: the vehicle position is outside the area of the digital map (off-map position).

  • No route: no route to the selected destination could be calculated.

Audio* menu

Use the functions in the Audio menu to operate the audio system* or COMAND APS*. If the audio equipment* or COMAND APS* is switched off, the multi-function display will show Audio off.

Selecting a radio station

  

Switch on the audio system* or COMAND APS* and select the radio; see the separate operating instructions.

  

Press the or button to select the Audio menu.

  

To select a stored station: briefly press the or the button.

To select a station using the search function: press and hold the or button.

DAB* radio mode

(Only for certain countries.)

(Digital Audio Broadcasting); see the separate operating instructions for the audio system* or COMAND APS*.

You can only change the waveband and store new stations using the audio system* or COMAND APS*.

Operating the audio player or audio media*

Audio data from various audio devices or media can be played, depending on the equipment fitted in the vehicle.

  

Switch on the audio system* or COMAND APS* and select the audio player or medium, see the separate operating instructions.

  

Press the or button to select the Audio menu.

  

To select the next or previous track: briefly press the or the button.

To select a track from the tracklist (fast scrolling): press and hold the or button until the desired track has been reached.

If you are playing a CD or DVD with track information, the multi-function display shows the name and number of the track. The track is displayed for MP3s. In audio AUX mode, the current track is not displayed.

Operating the video DVD*

  

Switch on COMAND APS* and select video DVD; see the separate operating instructions.

  

Press the or button to select the Audio menu.

  

To select the next or previous scene: briefly press the or the button.

To select a scene from the scene list (fast scrolling): press and hold the or button until the desired scene has been reached.

 

Tel* menu

Functions and displays are dependent on the optional equipment installed in your vehicle.

You can place your mobile phone in the mobile phone bracket* more, or set up a Bluetooth connection to the audio equipment* or COMAND APS*; see the separate operating instructions.

Risk of accident

Observe the legal requirements of the country in which you are currently driving regarding the use of mobile phones in the vehicle.

If it is permitted to use mobile phones while the vehicle is in motion, you should only use them when the road and traffic conditions allow. You may otherwise be distracted from the traffic conditions, cause an accident and injure yourself and others.

Press the or button to select the Tel menu.

Mobile phone on

PIN code not yet entered

The Please enter PIN message appears in the multi-function display.

  

Enter the PIN using the mobile phone, Linguatronic*, the audio equipment* or COMAND APS*.

 

The mobile phone will search for a network. During this time, the message Telephone No Service appears in the multi-function display.

Mobile phone operational

The multi-function display shows the name of the GSM network provider.

Accepting a call

  

Press the button to answer a call.

You can also accept a call if you have not selected the Tel menu.

Rejecting or ending a call

  

Press the button.

You can also reject or end a call if you have not selected the Tel menu.

Dialling a number from the phone book

For information on entering new phone numbers in the phone book, see the separate operating instructions for the mobile phone, the audio equipment* or COMAND APS*.

If your mobile phone is able to receive calls, you can search for and dial a number from the phone book in the audio equipment* or COMAND APS* at any time.

  

Copy the phone book of your mobile phone to the audio equipment* or COMAND APS*; see the separate operating instructions for the audio equipment* or COMAND APS*.

  

Press the or button to select the Tel menu.

  

Press the , or button to call up the phone book.

  

Press the or button to select the name you are searching for.

 

To scroll rapidly, press and hold the or the button for longer than one second. After four seconds, the rapid scroll speeds up.

The rapid scroll stops when you release the button or reach the end of the list.

  

If only one telephone number is stored for a name: press the or button to start dialling.

 

The Connecting call... message and the telephone number dialled appear in the multi-function display. The name also appears, provided it is stored in the phone book. The dialled number is stored in the NOS. DIALLED list.

If a call is connected, the phone book entry appears in the multi-function display.

If there is more than one number for a particular name: press the or button to display the numbers.

  

Press the or button to select the number you want to dial.

  

Press the or button to start dialling.

 

The Connecting call... message and the telephone number dialled appear in the multi-function display. The name also appears, provided it is stored in the phone book. The dialled number is stored in the NOS. DIALLED list.

If a call is connected, the phone book entry appears in the multi-function display.

If you do not want to make a call: press the button.

Redialling

The on-board computer stores the most recently dialled names and numbers from the mobile phone.

  

Press the or button to select the Tel menu.

  

Press the button to go to the most recently dialled number or name in the redial menu.

  

Press the or button to select the number or name you are looking for.

  

Press the or button to start dialling.

 

Service menu

In the Service menu, you can:

  • call up display messages more

  • restart the tyre pressure loss warning system more

  • call up the service due date more

Calling up display messages

The on-board computer stores certain display messages. You can call up display messages in this menu.

Risk of accident

The on-board computer only records and displays messages and warnings from certain systems. For this reason, you should always make sure that your vehicle is safe to drive. You could otherwise cause an accident by driving an unsafe vehicle.

Press or to select the Service menu.

  

Press or to select the Messages submenu.

  

Press to confirm.

 

If there are messages, the following message may appear in the multi-function display, for example: 2 messages.

  

Press or to scroll through the messages.

The possible display messages are explained in the "Practical advice" section more.

All display messages are deleted when you turn off the ignition.

 

Settings menu

In the Settings menu, you can:

  • change the instrument cluster settings more

  • change the time/date settings more

  • change the light settings more

  • change the vehicle settings more

  • change the convenience settings more

  • restore the factory settings more

Instrument cluster

The Instrument cluster menu contains the following functions:

  • units for speed and distance

  • language

  • dig. speedo, on vehicles with manual transmission

  • permanent display*, on vehicles with automatic transmission*

Selecting the units for speed and distance

The Display Unit Speed-/Odometer function allows you to choose whether certain displays appear in mph or km/h.

The selected units apply to:

  • the total distance recorder and the trip meter

  • the trip computer

  • the digital speedometer in the Trip menu

  • cruise control*

  • Speedtronic*

  

Press the or button to select the Settings menu.

  

Press the or button to select the Instrument cluster submenu.

  

Press the button to confirm.

  

Press the or button to select the Display Unit Speed-/Odometer function.

 

You will see the selected setting: km or miles.

  

Press the button to change the setting.

Selecting the language

This menu is only available on vehicles without audio equipment.

The Language function allows you to select the language for the instrument cluster.

  

Press the or button to select the Settings menu.

  

Press the or button to select the Instrument cluster submenu.

  

Press the button to confirm.

  

Press the or button to select the Language function.

 

You will see the selected language.

  

Press the button to see the list of languages.

  

Press the or button to select the desired language.

  

Press the button to save the selected language.

Activating or deactivating the additional speedometer on vehicles with manual transmission

Vehicles for the United Kingdom: this function is not available.

The Speedometer (mph) function allows you to select whether the multi-function display shows the speed in mph.

  

Press the or button to select the Settings menu.

  

Press the or button to select the Instrument cluster submenu.

  

Press the button to confirm.

  

Press the or button to select the Dig. speedo (mph) function.

 

You will see the selected setting: On or Off.

  

Press the button to change the setting.

Selecting the Permanent display function*

Only automatic transmission vehicles have this function*

Vehicles for the United Kingdom: this function is not available.

The Permanent display function allows you to choose whether the multi-function display always shows the outside temperature or the speed in mph.

  

Press the or button to select the Settings menu.

  

Press the or button to select the Instrument cluster submenu.

  

Press the button to confirm.

  

Press the or button to select the Permanent display function.

 

You will see the selected setting: Outside temperature or Speedometer (mph).

  

Press the button to change the setting.

Time/date

This menu is only available on vehicles without audio system or with Audio 20*.

Your vehicle could have the following audio system*:

COMAND APS*

  

You can see which audio system* is fitted in your vehicle by referring to the separate operating instructions.

Depending on the audio system* fitted, time and date are received from GPS satellites and therefore cannot be set using the on-board computer; see the following table.

You will see the time currently set.

  

Press the button to change it.

  

Press the or button to select the display to be changed: hours, minutes.

  

Press the or button to set the selected display.

  

Press the button to store the entry.

You will see the date currently set.

  

Press the button to change it.

  

Press the or button to select the display to be changed: day, month, year.
