Opening and closing
Key
The vehicle's equipment includes two keys with remote control. Each key contains an emergency key element.
The key is configured at the factory to centrally lock and unlock the following:

The doors
-
The tailgate
-
The fuel filler flap

Never leave children unsupervised in the vehicle. They could open even a locked door from the inside or start the vehicle if the key is left in it and thereby endanger themselves and others. You should therefore take the key with you when leaving the vehicle, even if you are only leaving it for a short time.

You can also open and close the side windows and the sliding/tilting sunroof* or the panorama sliding sunroof* with the key more.

Factory settings

To unlock centrally: press the button.
|

The turn signals flash once. The locking knobs in the doors pop up. The anti-theft alarm system* is deactivated.
When it is dark, the surround lighting also comes on if it is activated in the on-board computer.

If you do not open either a door or the tailgate after you have unlocked the vehicle, it will relock itself automatically after approximately 40 seconds.

To lock centrally: press the button.

The turn signals flash three times if the doors and tailgate are closed. The locking knobs in the doors drop down. The anti-theft alarm system* and the immobiliser are primed.

Individual settings
You can change the setting of the locking system in such a way that pressing the
button only unlocks the driver's door and the fuel filler flap. This is useful if you frequently travel on your own.
The key now functions as follows:
Restoring the factory settings
KEYLESS GO key*
If you are carrying the KEYLESS GO key on your person, you can use the KEYLESS GO functions of your vehicle. The KEYLESS GO key should not be more than one metre away from the vehicle. However, you can also use the KEYLESS GO key like a normal key with remote control.
When you pull the door handle, the following unlock centrally if the factory settings have not been changed:

The doors
-
The tailgate
-
The fuel filler flap
If you pull on the handle of the tailgate, only the tailgate of your vehicle is unlocked.

Never leave children unsupervised in the vehicle. They could open a door from the inside at any time, even if it has been locked. Or they could start the vehicle if a valid KEYLESS GO key is in the vehicle and they press the KEYLESS GO button on the ignition lock. They could endanger themselves and others. Switch off the engine and take the KEYLESS GO key with you, even if you are only leaving the vehicle for a short time.

If the vehicle has been parked for a long time, you must pull the door handle to activate the KEYLESS GO functions.

Important notes
-
If the KEYLESS GO key is removed from the vehicle (in luggage or in an article of clothing, for instance), it will no longer be possible to start the vehicle.

If the KEYLESS GO key is removed from the vehicle while the engine is running, e.g. if the front passenger leaves the vehicle with the KEYLESS GO key, the following message will appear in the multi-function display as you pull away: Key not detected.

If the KEYLESS GO key is in the vehicle, the vehicle can be started at any time. If you have left the KEYLESS GO key in the vehicle, you will see the following message in the multi-function display when you lock the vehicle: Key still in vehicle.

It is possible that the vehicle may be inadvertently unlocked if the KEYLESS GO key
is within a maximum of one metre of the vehicle and the door handle is splashed by a gush of water or if you are cleaning the door handle.

Individual settings
You can change the setting of the locking system. When you now grasp the door handle on the driver's door, you will only unlock the driver's door and the fuel filler flap. This is useful if you frequently travel on your own.
The KEYLESS GO key will now function as follows:

To unlock the driver's door: Pull the door handle on the driver's door.
|
|
To unlock centrally: Pull the door handle on the front-passenger door or on the rear doors.
|
|
To lock centrally: Press locking button on the door handle.
|

Locking from the luggage compartment*
On vehicles with KEYLESS GO* and a tailgate with the EASY-PACK loading-aid feature*, you can close the tailgate automatically and thereby centrally lock your vehicle more.
Opening the doors from the inside
You can open a door from the inside at any time, even if it is locked.

You can only open a locked rear door from the inside if it is not secured by child-proof locks.

If the door is locked, locking knob pops up. The door is unlocked and can be opened.

EASY-PACK tailgate*
On vehicles with the EASY-PACK tailgate*, the tailgate opens and closes automatically. You can stop the automatic opening and closing process at any time:

by pulling or pushing the remote operating switch at the driver's seat
-
by pressing the
button on the key
-
by pulling the handle of the tailgate
-
by pressing the closing button on the tailgate
A tone sounds when the tailgate opens or closes.

If the engine is running and the tailgate is open, exhaust fumes can enter the interior of the vehicle. This could poison you. Therefore make sure that the tailgate is always closed when the engine is running.

|
The tailgate swings upwards and out when opening. Therefore, make sure that there is sufficient space above the tailgate.

Opening from the outside
You can only open the tailgate if you have unlocked it first.
|
To unlock centrally: press the button on the key.

Opening from the outside using the key
You can unlock and open the tailgate simultaneously with the key when the vehicle is stationary.

Press and hold the button on the key until the tailgate is open.

Closing from outside (without KEYLESS GO*)
You can lock the tailgate from outside using the closing button inside the tailgate.

Monitor the tailgate closing procedure to make sure that nobody can become trapped. To stop the closing procedure, press the closing button in the tailgate again or press the button on the key.

If the tailgate meets resistance when closing, caused for instance by luggage piled too high, the closing procedure is interrupted and the tailgate reopens.
|

If the vehicle was previously locked centrally, the tailgate will be automatically locked again.

Closing and locking centrally from outside (using KEYLESS GO*)
You can close the tailgate from outside using the closing button in the tailgate or, using the KEYLESS GO button*, you can close the boot and simultaneously lock the vehicle centrally.

Monitor the tailgate closing procedure to make sure that nobody can become trapped. To stop the closing procedure, press the closing button in the tailgate again or press the button on the key.

If the tailgate meets resistance when closing, caused for instance by luggage piled too high, the closing procedure is interrupted and the tailgate reopens.

The tailgate cannot be locked if a KEYLESS GO key* is left inside the luggage compartment.

Opening and closing from the inside
You can only open and close the tailgate from the driver's seat when the vehicle is stationary.

Monitor the tailgate closing procedure to make sure that nobody can become trapped. To stop the closing procedure, operate the remote operating switch again.

Restricting the tailgate opening angle
You can limit the opening angle of the tailgate. The tailgate then only opens approximately 20 cm above the height of the edge of the roof. This could be useful, for example, if there is insufficient clearance above the tailgate.

The opening limiter is switched on and off using the on-board computer more.
|
Automatic locking feature
The vehicle will lock automatically once you have pulled away.
You can switch off the automatic locking function via the on-board computer more.

The doors unlock automatically in the event of an accident if the force of the impact exceeds a predetermined level.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the ignition is switched on and the wheels begin to turn. There is therefore a risk of being locked out when the vehicle is being pushed or tested on a dynamometer.

Locking/unlocking the vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle from the inside. This feature may be useful if, for example, you wish to unlock the front-passenger door from the inside or lock the vehicle before you pull away.

You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from the inside if the vehicle has been locked from the outside using the key or the KEYLESS GO key*.
|

It is only possible to lock the vehicle centrally if the front-passenger door is closed.
