Entering a special destination in the vicinity of the current position

  

Select Destination From POIs Current position in map view with the menu system displayed more.

  

Continue with designating the special destination category more.

 

Entering a special destination in the vicinity of a town

Option 1

  

Select Destination From POIs Other town in map view with the menu system displayed more.

  

Select the country if necessary more.

  

To enter a town: select Town.

 

The town input menu appears.

  

Proceed as described in the Enter town section more.

  

After you have entered the town, continue with designating the special destination category more.

Option 2

  

Enter an address in the address input menu more.

  

Select POI.

  

Continue with designating the special destination category more.

 

Entering a special destination in a different region

This function gives you quick access to special destinations which are of national interest for the country you have selected. The following categories are available:

  • MOTORWAY ACCESS

  • MOTORWAY JUNCTION

  • MOTORWAY SERVICES

  • AIRPORT

  • BORDER CROSSING

Not all categories are available in all countries.

  

Select Destination From POIs Global POI in map view with the menu system displayed more.

 

The category list appears. The country currently set is shown at the top.

  

To select a different country: select Country.

 

The country list appears.

  

Select the desired country.

 

If there are no special destinations for the selected country, you will see a message to this effect.

  

To close the message: select OK.

 

You can select a country again.

If there are special destinations, you will see the category list again.

  

Proceed from the step "To select a main category" in the "Main category list without input characters" section more.

 

Defining a category

The categories and special destinations available depend on the vehicle's current location.

  • Special destination in the vicinity of the current position: categories sorted alphabetically and special destinations sorted by distance within a 20 km radius of the vehicle position are available.

  • Special destination within a given town: if you have only entered the country and the town, alphabetically sorted categories and special destinations within the town are available.

    If you have entered more than the country and the town, categories sorted alphabetically and special destinations sorted by distance within a 20 km radius of the address entered are available.

  • Special destination in a different region: alphabetically sorted categories and special destinations are available.

Selecting a category

Depending on the number of available categories, the main category list is displayed either with or without input characters during category input.

If this list appears, input characters are activated automatically.

With input characters you can only select the characters that are currently available. Which these are depends on the current input string and the data contained on the digital map.

During the character selection procedure described below, list entry always shows a category that most closely matches the current input string.

COMAND then automatically adds plausible characters to those already entered by the user .

  

To select a character: slide or turn .

  

To confirm the character selection: press .

  

To delete individual characters: select on the lower bar and press .

  

To delete an entire entry: select on the lower bar and press and hold until the entire entry has been deleted.

  

To cancel an entry: select Back on the lower bar and press .

Press the Back button.

Input characters disappear if COMAND is able to unambiguously assign the characters entered to one category. The list of main categories is shown without the input characters. Here you can make another selection.

It is also possible to change to the main category list without input characters manually at any time during character input.

  

To change manually to the main category list without input characters: slide .

Main categories with icon contain either special destinations or sub-categories. Subsequent operation depends on whether the main category selected contains sub-categories or only special destinations.

Selecting one of these main categories takes you to a list of sub-categories. The following illustration shows the RESTAURANT main category with available sub-categories as an example.

  

To select a sub-category: slide or turn .

  

To cancel a selection: select Back and press .

To confirm your selection: press .

 

The special destination list is displayed after you have selected a sub-category . It contains the special destinations available in the sub-category that are within the search radius.

If you have selected list item , the special destination list contains all special destinations from all sub-categories in main category , provided they are within the search radius.

If the main category selected contains no sub-categories, only special destinations:

Selecting one of these main categories takes you straight to the special destination list. The special destination list then contains the special destinations available in the main category and that are within the search radius.

The illustration below shows an example of the special destination list for the RESTAURANT main category and GERMAN CUISINE sub-category in the vicinity of the current position.

Displays and are not visible if you have entered a special destination within a given town and only the country and town have been entered.

In the special destination list, you can either select a special destination or enter the name of the special destination.

Select the desired special destination.

 

The special destination list disappears and the address of the special destination is displayed.

  

To return to the list of special destinations: select Back and press .

Select Options Spell.

 

The special destination list appears with the input characters, which are activated automatically.

List options

Options in category and special destination lists

If you enter a special destination in the vicinity of the vehicle’s current position, categories and special destinations are initially available within a 20 km radius of the vehicle’s current position. The same applies if you enter a special destination within a given town and have previously entered more than the country and the town.

If you expand the list, the search radius increases to 150 km. This gives you access to all categories and special destinations within this radius.

It is not possible to expand the list if you have entered a special destination within a given town more.

  

To expand the list: select Options Expand search in one of the lists.

To display details about the selected entry: select Options Details.

  

To close the detailed view: select OK.

 

Entering a special destination via the map

If the crosshair is shown on the map, you can enter special destinations in the vicinity of the crosshair. If the crosshair is not shown on the map, you can enter special destinations in the vicinity of the vehicle’s current position.

  

Select Route Symbol info in map view with the menu system displayed more.

 

You will see special destination icons on the map, depending on whether special destinations are available and which map scale is set. The scale at which the icons are displayed on the map varies according to the icon. You can select the icons COMAND is to display more. The special destination closest to the centre of the screen is automatically marked.

If there are no special destinations available, the Back menu item is automatically highlighted and you cannot select other menu items.

To select a special destination: select Next or Previous.

A prompt appears asking whether the special destination should be used as the destination.

  

Select Yes or No.

 

If you select Yes, route calculation begins. If you select No, you can select a new special destination.
