On-board computer

Points to remember

The on-board computer is activated as soon as you turn the key to position 2 in the ignition lock. You can use the on-board computer to call up information relating to your vehicle and to make and/or adjust settings.

Risk of accident

Only use the on-board computer when road and traffic conditions permit. You would otherwise be distracted and unable to concentrate properly on driving, and could cause an accident.

 

Multi-function steering wheel

Use the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel to operate the on-board computer.

Confirms selection or fades out display messages.
In the Telephone* menu: switches to the phone book and starts dialling.

Press the back button until the Trip menu appears with the distance recorder and trip meter.

The values in the From start submenu refer to the start of the journey.

The From start trip computer is automatically reset if the trip is interrupted for longer than 4 hours. It is automatically reset if the trip exceeds 999 hours or 9,999 kilometres.

The values in the From reset submenu refer to the last time the submenu was reset.

Calling up the range

  

Press or to select the Trip menu.

  

Press the or button to select Distance:.

 

The multi-function display shows the estimated distance that can be covered by the vehicle, based on your current driving style and the amount of fuel remaining in the tank.

If there is only a small amount of fuel left in the fuel tank, the display shows a vehicle being refuelled instead of the range .

Press or to select the Trip menu.

Resetting

You can reset the following functions:

  • trip meter

  • trip computer From start

Press or to select the Trip menu.

  

Press or to select the function that you wish to reset.

  

Press the button.

  

Press to select yes and press to confirm.

The multi-function display shows the COMAND navigation instructions in the Nav menu.

The road you are currently driving on only appears if it is in the COMAND memory.

When a change of direction is announced, you will see visual distance display next to the symbol for the change of direction. This decreases in size as you approach the announced change of direction.

Lane recommendation

On multiple-lane roads, COMAND can provide a lane recommendation for the next change of direction. There may be additional lanes during a change of direction.

Navigation status indicators in the multi-function display

When route guidance is activated, the following messages may appear:

  • : you have reached the destination.

  • New route...: COMAND is calculating the new route.

  • Off map or Direction of dest. or Off road: the vehicle position is outside the area of the digital map (off-map position) more.

  • No route: COMAND cannot calculate a route to the selected destination.

 

Audio menu

The functions in the Audio menu are used to operate the audio system. If the audio system is not switched on, the multi-function display shows Audio off.

Use the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.

Selecting a radio station

You can only change the waveband and store new stations using COMAND.

  

Switch on COMAND and select Radio more.

  

Press the or button to select the Audio menu.

  

To select a stored channel: briefly press the or button.

  

To select a station from the alphabetical station list (only possible in the FM and DAB wavebands): press and hold the or button.

  

To select a station with the station search function (only if COMAND is not receiving RDS data): press and hold the or button.

DAB* radio mode

Operating the audio player or audio media

  

Switch on COMAND and select CD player, audio DVD or MP3 more.

  

Press the or button to select the Audio menu.

  

Press the or button to select a track.

 

If track information is stored on the medium, the multi-function display will show the number and name of the track. The track is displayed for MP3s. In audio AUX mode, the current track is not displayed.

Operating the video DVD

  

Switch on COMAND and select Video DVD more.

  

Press the or button to select the Audio menu.

  

Press the or button to select a scene.

Operating the TV*

  

Switch on COMAND and select TV more.

  

Press the or button to select the Audio menu.

  

To select a stored channel: briefly press the or button.

  

To select a channel from the alphabetical channel list: press and hold the or button.

  

To select a channel with the channel search (only if COMAND is not receiving a channel list): press and hold the or button.

 

AMG* menu

These functions are only available on AMG vehicles.

Upshift instruction
Engine oil temperature
On-board voltage

Shift up instruction tells you that the engine has reached the overrevving range in the manual gearshift program. Shift up instruction blocks other messages in the multi-function display until you have shifted up.

The engine oil temperature gauge is blue if the engine oil temperature has not reached 80 . Avoid driving at full engine output during this time.

RACETIMER

The RACETIMER allows time measurements to be saved.

While you have the RACETIMER displayed, you will not be able to adjust the volume using the and buttons.

  

Press the or button to select the AMG menu.

  

Press the button repeatedly until the RACETIMER appears.

You can start the RACETIMER when the engine is running or if the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.

  

To start: press the button to start the RACETIMER.

  

To display the intermediate time: press the button to show the intermediate time.

 

The intermediate time is displayed for five seconds.

  

To stop: press the button to stop the RACETIMER.

The RACETIMER interrupts timing when you stop the vehicle and turn the key to position 1 in the ignition lock. When you turn the key to position 2 or 3 and then press the button, timing is continued.

Storing the lap time and starting a new lap

It is possible to store a maximum of sixteen laps.

  

Press the button to show the intermediate time during timing.

 

The intermediate time is displayed for five seconds.

  

Press the button again within 5 seconds.

 

The displayed intermediate time is stored as a lap time.

Timing starts for a new lap. The new lap is timed from when the intermediate time is called up.

Press the button to stop the RACETIMER.

  

Press the button to reset the lap time to "0".

Deleting all laps

It is not possible to delete a single stored lap on its own.

  

Press the button to stop the RACETIMER.

  

Press and hold the button for a minimum of 3 seconds.

  

Press the button to start the RACETIMER.

 

All laps are deleted.

or

  

Press the button to stop the RACETIMER.

  

Press the button.

 

Reset Race Timer appears in the multi-function display.

  

Press the button to select Yes and press the button to confirm.

 

All laps are deleted.

Overall evaluation

This function is only available if you have stored at least one lap and have stopped the RACETIMER.

  

Press the or button to select the AMG menu.

  

Press the button repeatedly until the overall evaluation appears.

Each lap is shown in a separate submenu. The fastest lap is indicated by flashing symbol .

You can use the functions in the Telephone menu to operate the mobile phone, provided it is connected to the Mercedes-Benz hands-free system.

Use the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.

  

Switch on the mobile phone and COMAND more.

  

Press the or button to select the Telephone menu.

Mobile phone on

PIN code not yet entered

The Please enter PIN message appears in the multi-function display.

  

Enter the PIN via the mobile phone, Linguatronic* or COMAND.

 

The mobile phone will search for a network. The multi-function display remains blank during this time.

Mobile phone operational

The multi-function display shows the name of the GSM network provider.

Accepting a call

  

Press the button to accept the call.

Rejecting or ending a call

  

Press the button.

Dialling a number from the phone book

For information on entering new telephone numbers into the phone book, see the separate mobile phone operating instructions or COMAND more.

When you put the mobile phone into the cradle, the on-board computer reads in the telephone book that is stored on the SIM card or the mobile phone. This can take some time.

While the on-board computer reads the SIM card:

  • you can dial a telephone number from the redial list.

  • you can dial a telephone number from the telephone book stored in COMAND.

  • the multi-function display shows the message Reading data... next to the phone book entries.

If the message Updating data... appears, COMAND has finished reading in the data. The multi-function display then shows all the phone book entries in COMAND and the mobile phone.

  

Press the or button to select the Telephone menu.

  

Press the , or button to call up the phone book.

  

Press the or button to select the name you are searching for.

To scroll rapidly, press and hold the or button for longer than 1 second. After 4 seconds, the rapid scroll speeds up.

 

The rapid scroll stops when you release the button or reach the end of the list.

  

If there is more than one number for a particular name: press the or button to select the desired number.

  

Press the or button to start dialling.

 

The message Connecting call and the selected number appear in the multi-function display. The name appears instead of the telephone number, provided it is stored in the phone book. The dialled number is stored in the Nos. dialled list.

If you do not want to make a call: press the or button.

Redialling

The on-board computer stores the most recently dialled names and numbers from the mobile phone.

  

Press the or button to select the Telephone menu.

  

Press the button to go to the most recently dialled number or name in the redial list.

  

Press the or button to select the number or name you are looking for.

  

Press the or button to start dialling.

 

Assistance menu*

Showing the distance display*

This function is only available with Distronic* or Distronic Plus*.

  

Press the or button to select the Assistance menu.

  

Press the or button to select Distance display.

  

Press the button.

 

The Distronic* or Distronic Plus* distance display appears in the multi-function display.

Activating/deactivating the distance warning system*

This function is only available with Distronic*.

  

Press the or button to select the Assistance menu.

  

Press the or button to select Distance warning.

  

Press the button.

  

If you want to change the setting, press the button again.

Activating/deactivating the PRE-SAFE® Brake*

This function is only available with Distronic Plus*.

  

Press the or button to select the Assistance menu.

  

Press the or button to select PRE-SAFE Brake.

  

Press the button.

Activating/deactivating Blind Spot Assist*

  

Press the or button to select the Assistance menu.

  

Press the or button to select Blind spot assist.

Service menu

In the Service menu, you can:

  • call up display messages

  • restart the tyre pressure loss warning system more or check the tyre pressure electronically* more

  • call up the service due date more

  • check the engine oil level* more

Calling up display messages

The on-board computer stores certain display messages. You can call up display messages in this menu.

Risk of accident

The on-board computer only records and displays messages and warnings from certain systems. For this reason, you should always make sure that your vehicle is safe to drive. You could otherwise cause an accident by driving an unsafe vehicle.

Switching off the ignition clears all display messages except for the highest priority display messages. The on-board computer will delete these display messages only after the reason for the message has been rectified.

Press or to select the Service menu.

 

If there are messages, the following message may appear in the multi-function display, for example: 2 messages.

  

Use the or button to select the entry, e.g. 2 messages.

  

Press to confirm.

  

Use the or button to scroll through the display messages.

Switching the daytime driving lights on/off

If you have set the Daytime driving lamps and the light switch is set to or , the side lamps, dipped-beam headlamps and licence plate lighting are switched on automatically when the engine is running. If you turn the light switch to a different position the corresponding light is switched on.

Make sure that the light switch is set to or if you are switching off daytime driving lights while driving at night.

  

Press the or button to select the Settings menu.

  

Press or to select Daytime driving lamps.

  

Press the button.

  

If you want to change the setting, press the button again.

Showing or hiding the digital speedometer

You can also show the digital speedometer in the multi-function display.

Vehicles with a kilometre speedometer: the digital speedometer has mph units. Vehicles with a miles speedometer: the digital speedometer has km/h units.

  

Press or to select the Settings menu.

  

Press or to select Dig. speedo.

  

Press the button.

  

If you want to change the setting, press the button again.

Selecting the unit of measurement for distance

The selected unit of measurement for distance applies to:

  • the analogue speedometer

  • the total distance recorder and the trip meter

  • all values in From start and From reset in the Trip menu

  • the digital speedometer in the Trip menu

  • the distance values in the navigation system*

  • cruise control

  • Speedtronic

  • Distronic* or Distronic Plus*

The digital speedometer shows alternative speed units more.

  

Press or to select the Settings menu.

  

Press or to select Units.

  

Press the button.

  

If you want to change the setting, press the button again.

 

You can then switch between km/h and mph.

Activating/deactivating the radar sensor system*

You must deactivate the radar sensor system in certain countries and near radio telescope facilities. Further information can be found in the index under "Radar sensor system".

Vehicles with a navigation system*: the radar sensor system is deactivated automatically if you are close to radio telescope facilities.

The following systems are switched off when the radar sensor system is deactivated:

  • Distronic Plus*

  • BAS PLUS*

  • Park Assist* and Parking Guidance*

  • PRE-SAFE® Brake*

  • Blind Spot Assist*

  

Press or to select the Settings menu.

  

Press or to select Radar sensor system.

  

Press the button.
