Opening and closing
The vehicle is factory-fitted with central locking. The enhanced central locking system is a central locking system with additional convenience features. Both locking systems can be combined with an anti-theft alarm system.
The central locking systems will only operate if the vehicle is locked or unlocked using the vehicle key at the driver’s door or the remote control and if both doors are properly closed.
Vehicle key
The vehicle is equipped with a special key system. The engine can only be started using the key coded to the vehicle.

If a vehicle key is lost, obtaining a replacement is a time-consuming process which is only possible through a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you always keep an easily accessible spare key with you for emergencies.

Central locking
Unlocking/locking the door from the outside using the vehicle key

You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally from the inside using the door lock switch on the control panel on the driver’s and co-driver’s doors.

Remote control
Vehicles with enhanced central locking system or anti-theft alarm system (ATA):
The remote control works regardless of the direction in which it is pointed. The vehicle can also be unlocked from a distance. To prevent vehicle theft, you should only use the remote control in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle.

If you unlock the vehicle with the radio remote control and do not open the door within 25 seconds, the vehicle locks again automatically.

Loss of a remote control
If you have lost a remote control, a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre will be able to cancel it. The other remote controls can be recoded.
Enhanced central locking system
The enhanced central locking system is a central locking system with additional features:

Unlocking the driver’s door using the remote control

Press the button once.

Sliding/tilting sunroof lock
Vehicles with the enhanced central locking system:
The lock prevents the sliding/tilting sunroof closing automatically when the vehicle doors are locked. Air circulation can then be maintained in the cab when the vehicle is locked.

Anti-theft alarm system (ATA)
The anti-theft alarm system is installed in the vehicle to supplement the central locking or the enhanced central locking system. It protects the tractor vehicle and the attached trailer/semitrailer from break-in and theft.

The primed ATA triggers an alarm if one of the monitored components responds.

When ATA is activated, it confirms the locking procedure by flashing all turn signals three times. If this does not occur, one or more components are not configured in the basic settings. ATA cannot monitor these components.
Reactivate ATA if you want to fold up flaps after locking or want to later include a coupled trailer in the monitoring.

The side windows, roof hatch or sliding/tilting sunroof must be locked. The curtains must be closed. No loose objects, e.g. soft toys or coat hangers are allowed to hang loose in the cab.

Components that are moved to the basic position within 30 seconds of ATA being primed will be monitored.

ATA for GGVSE vehicles (vehicles for the transportation of hazardous goods)
If ATA is activated and the power supply is interrupted with the EMERGENCY OFF switch, the alarm is triggered. The following is shown in the display: Pressing the EMERGENCY OFF switch triggers the alarm!.
Priming or deactivating ATA
You can prime or deactivate ATA:
The vehicle key must be turned fully back in the ignition lock or removed.
Locking the vehicle without ATA

Hold the vehicle key in the door lock of the driver's door for a maximum of 1 second in position more.

Lock the vehicle at the co-driver’s door.

All the turn signal lamps on the vehicle flash once. ATA is deactivated. The doors remain locked.

If the engine is started while ATA is activated, ATA switches it off again.

Activating ATA without interior monitoring
If you want to leave persons or animals locked in the cab, the interior motion sensor must be deactivated.

Cancelling the alarm
With the remote control:

Press the button.
|
With the vehicle key in the vehicle door:
|
Turn the vehicle key to position in the door lock and hold it there.
|
From the inside:

Press the upper section of the switch.
|
Panic alarm
With the panic button an alarm can be triggered manually, for example if danger threatens.

The panic alarm is deactivated. The driver's and co-driver's doors remain locked. ATA maintains its previous status.

Getting into/out of the vehicle

Dirt and mud on the access steps and entrances impair boarding safety. You could slip off the steps.
Keep access steps, entrances and footwear free from dirt (e.g. mud, clay, snow and ice).

Do not remove the key from the ignition lock until the vehicle is stationary, as you will no longer be able to steer the vehicle when there is no key in the ignition lock. Remove the key from the ignition lock when you leave the vehicle, even if you are only leaving for a short while.
Children or unauthorised persons could otherwise endanger themselves and others, for example, by activating electrical functions, releasing the parking brake, starting the engine and/or setting the vehicle in motion.

Do not leave children unsupervised in the vehicle even if they are secured in a child restraint system. They could:

Lower the driver’s suspension seat completely when getting into and out of the vehicle.
Please observe the operating instructions of the seat manufacturer.

Do not jump down from the cab.

Do not remove the key from the ignition lock until the vehicle is stationary. Once the ignition key is removed you cannot steer the vehicle. You should therefore remove the key when leaving the vehicle, even if you are only leaving it for a short time.
Children or unauthorised persons could endanger themselves or others. They could, for example, activate electrical functions, release the parking brake, start the engine and/or set the vehicle in motion.

Vehicles used for the transportation of hazardous goods:
When the key is in position , the battery isolating switch is off. All consumers are disconnected from the batteries, apart from the tachograph.
When the key is in position, the battery isolating switch is in the on position. Most consumers are operational.

If you turn the vehicle key fully back in the ignition lock when the vehicle lighting is switched on, the battery isolating switch, hazard warning lamps and auxiliary heating will remain on.
When the vehicle key is removed, the steering is locked.
