Air-conditioning system control panel

The air-conditioning system control panel can be used to regulate the:

  • airflow

  • air distribution

  • temperature

Adjusting the airflow

Recirculated air
Fresh air

Blower switch

Turn the vehicle key to the radio position in the ignition lock.

For precise control of the selected temperature, select blower speed setting 1 or 2.

Set the blower switch to air-recirculation mode if dust or unpleasant odours enter the vehicle.

Set the blower switch back to fresh air again as soon as possible.

This will prevent the windows from misting up.

Selecting the temperature

Heating off
Full heater output

Operate the temperature selector at least once or twice every month.

This will ensure its operational reliability.

Use the temperature selector to set the desired temperature.

Example settings

Demisting the windscreen

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Close the air vents and the heating vents.

The full heater output is only available when the engine has reached operating temperature. If required, switch on the auxiliary heating more.

Heating

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Open the air vents and the heating vents as desired.

If required, switch on the auxiliary heating more.

Ventilation

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Open the roof hatch or the pop-up roof.

Open the air vents and the heating vents as desired.

Unpleasant odours
Risk of accident

Only switch over to air-recirculation mode briefly if the outside temperature is low. Otherwise, the windows could mist up, thus impairing visibility and endangering you and others. This may prevent you from observing the traffic conditions, thereby causing an accident.

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Close the side windows and the roof hatch/pop-up roof.

Air conditioning system

The air-conditioning system cannot be operated unless the engine is running.

If the outside temperature is very high, turn the blower switch to air-recirculation mode more.

Air-conditioning switch

Switch on the air-conditioning system at least once a month for approx. 10 minutes to prevent damage to the air-conditioning compressor.

To switch on the air conditioning: press the top of the air conditioning switch.

The indicator lamp in the switch lights up.

To switch off the air conditioning: press the bottom of the air conditioning switch.

The indicator lamp in the switch goes out.

To set the temperature: turn the temperature selector to the desired temperature.

Example settings

Cooling

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Close the roof hatch or the pop-up roof.

Open the air vents and the heating vents as desired.

Dehumidifying

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Close the roof hatch or the pop-up roof.

Close the air vents and the heating vents.

Auxiliary heating

The auxiliary heating operates independently of the engine and supplements the standard interior heating. For the auxiliary heating and the operation of the timer, see the operating instructions of the manufacturer.

Risk of injury

Running the auxiliary heating leads to the emission of hot and toxic exhaust gases.

You should therefore switch off the auxiliary heating in enclosed spaces without an extraction system, e.g. a garage.

Operation of the auxiliary heating system is prohibited at filling stations or when refuelling your vehicle.

The fuel vapours created during refuelling can ignite upon contact with the auxiliary heating's exhaust system. You must therefore switch off the auxiliary heating at filling stations.

If the auxiliary heating is not used for a long period of time, e.g. in summer, deposits can form in the fuel system of the auxiliary heating due to exposure to heat and condensation. These deposits can cause malfunctions to the auxiliary heating. Therefore, have the auxiliary heating checked and repaired at a qualified specialist workshop which has the necessary specialist knowledge and tools to carry out the work required before operating it again. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this purpose.

Switch on the auxiliary heating at least once a month for approx. 10 minutes to avoid damage to the circulation pump.

The auxiliary heating can only be operated with commercially available diesel fuel. Operating it with FAME fuel (bio-diesel fuel) or a mixture of commercially available diesel fuel and FAME fuel (> 10% quantity to be added) can lead to malfunctions and is therefore not permitted.

If the vehicle is operated with FAME fuel (bio-diesel fuel) or a mixture of commercially available diesel fuel and FAME fuel (> 10% quantity to be added):

An additional fuel tank with commercially available diesel fuel is needed to operate the auxiliary heating.

Vehicles used for transporting hazardous goods:

If you want to keep the auxiliary heating running permanently, e.g. overnight, turn the vehicle key to the radio position more in the ignition lock.

Switching the auxiliary heating on/off

Auxiliary heating switch (on the berth)

To switch on: press the top of the auxiliary heating switch.

To switch off: press the top of the auxiliary heating switch again.
