Starting-off aid

Activate the starting-off aid if the drive wheels spin while pulling away with the vehicle laden.

The vehicle can feature either a starting-off aid with speed limiter or with time limiter:

  • The starting-off aid with speed limiter is switched off automatically when the speed exceeds approximately 30 km/h. The starting-off aid can only be activated again when the speed falls below approximately 30 km/h.

  • The starting-off aid with a 90-second time limiter is deactivated automatically after 90 seconds and can be reactivated immediately thereafter.

  • The starting-off aid with a 120-second time limiter is deactivated automatically after 120 seconds and can be reactivated immediately thereafter.

Press the upper section of the starting-off aid switch.

 

flashes in the display while the starting-off aid is activated. At the same time, the status indicator lights up in yellow.

 

Leading axle/trailing axle

You can relieve but not raise the trailing axle or leading axle when driving empty.

If the supply pressure in the compressed-air system is too low, run the engine.

Vehicles with a rear loading crane: observe the information in the manufacturer's operating instructions before relieving the trailing axle.

Relieving the leading axle/trailing axle

  

Turn the vehicle key to the drive position in the ignition lock.

  

On empty or only partially loaded vehicles, press upper section of leading axle/trailing axle switch.

 

The symbol appears in the display and the status indicator lights up yellow.

Loading the leading axle/trailing axle

  

Press the upper section of the leading axle/trailing axle switch.

 

The message in the display and the status indicator go out.

 

Telligent® trailing axle

The indicator lamp lights up after the engine has started and remains lit until a minimum pressure of 60 bar has built up in the hydraulic system.

A malfunction in the Telligent® trailing axle is indicated by the indicator lamp.

Have the malfunction checked and repaired at a qualified specialist workshop which has the necessary specialist knowledge and tools to carry out the work required.

Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this purpose. All work relevant to safety or on safety-related systems must be carried out at a qualified specialist workshop.

Steering lock switch

When manoeuvring close to kerbstones or when travelling through narrow passages, there is a risk of tyre damage.

In such cases, engage the steering lock.

Locking the trailing axle steering function

  

Turn the vehicle key to the drive position in the ignition lock.

  

Press the upper section of the steering lock switch.

 

The indicator lamp in the instrument cluster goes out.

The electronic management system automatically sets the wheels in straight-ahead position and locks steering of the leading or trailing axle.

Releasing the trailing axle steering function

  

Press the lower section of the steering lock switch.

 

The indicator lamp in the instrument panel goes out as soon as the wheels have reached the steering position calculated by the control unit. The steering of the trailing axle or leading axle is unlocked and the axle is also steered.
