Fuels

Risk of injury

Fuel is highly flammable. Therefore, fire, naked flames and smoking are prohibited when handling fuel.

Deactivate the auxiliary heating when refuelling to prevent fuel vapours from igniting on the auxiliary heating exhaust system.

Fuel is toxic and constitutes a health hazard. Therefore, you should make sure that:

  • fuel does not come into contact with skin, eyes or clothing

  • you do not inhale fuel vapours

  • children are kept away from fuel

If you or anyone else comes into contact with fuel:

  • wash eyes immediately with plenty of clean water if fuel comes into contact with the eyes and consult a doctor.

  • clean affected areas of skin with soap and water immediately.

  • change out of clothing which has come into contact with fuel immediately.

  • If fuel is swallowed, a doctor should be consulted immediately.

Risk of fire

Do not use petrol to refuel vehicles with a diesel engine. Never mix diesel with petrol. This causes damage to the fuel system and engine and could result in the vehicle catching fire.

Do not use petrol to refuel vehicles with a diesel engine. Even small amounts of petrol will cause damage to the injection system. Damage resulting from adding petrol is not covered by the warranty.

Do not start the engine if you accidentally refuel with the wrong fuel. Otherwise, the fuel could enter the fuel lines. This would require draining of the fuel tank and fuel lines. Notify a qualified specialist workshop and have the fuel tank and fuel lines drained completely.

Switch off the engine and auxiliary heating before refuelling.

If you are refuelling the vehicle from drums or canisters, filter the fuel before refuelling.

In this way you will avoid malfunctions in the fuel system caused by contaminated fuel.

Do not add fuel additives to the diesel fuel/FAME fuel (bio-diesel fuel).

Observe the fuel grade.

You will find information about fuel in the "Service products" section more.

Check the fuel prefilter and the heated water separator regularly for condensation.

Environmental note

Improper handling of fuels results in danger to persons and the environment. Do not allow fuels to run into the sewage system, surface/ground water or into the ground.

AdBlue

Risk of injury

Make sure that:

  • AdBlue does not come into contact with skin, eyes or clothing

  • children are kept away from AdBlue

If you or anyone else comes into contact with AdBlue:

  • Wash eyes thoroughly with clean water if AdBlue comes into contact with the eyes and consult a doctor if necessary.

  • Clean affected areas of skin with soap and plenty of clean water immediately.

  • If AdBlue is swallowed, the affected person should rinse their mouth out with plenty of clean water and then drink plenty of water. Seek medical attention if necessary.

The level in the AdBlue tank is shown on the instrument panel more.

A special tank filler neck prevents the AdBlue reservoir from mistakenly being filled with diesel fuel or FAME fuel (bio-diesel fuel).

Risk of injury

If the AdBlue fuel filler cap is opened at high temperatures, ammonia vapours may escape. Ammonia vapours have a pungent odour and are particularly irritating to skin, mucous membranes and the eyes. Depending on the concentration and the length of time ammonia vapours are inhaled, effects may include a burning sensation in the eyes, nose and throat as well as irritation of the throat and watering eyes.

Do not inhale ammonia vapours.

Environmental note

AdBlue is biodegradable.

Improper handling of AdBlue results in danger to the environment. Do not allow large amounts of AdBlue to run into the sewage system, surface/ground water or into the ground.

Natural gas

Risk of explosion

Natural gas is highly flammable and forms an explosive mixture when mixed with air. Fire, naked flames, the creation of sparks and smoking are therefore prohibited when handling natural gas.

Switch off the auxiliary heating when refuelling to prevent natural gas from igniting on the auxiliary heating exhaust system.

Observe the instructions and regulations relevant to safety in filling stations.

You will find information about natural gas in the "Service products" section more.

Switch off the engine.

Apply the parking brake.

Turn the vehicle key fully back in the ignition lock.

Fuel filler cap and gas filler connection

The location of the fuel filler cap is indicated by a green "CNG" sticker. The fuel filler cap is located on the supply reservoirs.
Vehicles with gas supply reservoirs on both sides of the vehicle: the fuel filler cap is located on the right-hand side of the vehicle.

To remove the fuel filler cap: insert the fuel filler cap handle (located in the vehicle tool kit) into fuel filler cap .

Turn it in the direction of arrow and pull the fuel filler cap out of the filler neck.

To replace the fuel filler cap: replace fuel filler cap in the filler neck using the handle for the fuel filler cap and turn in the direction of arrow .

Remove the handle for the fuel filler cap and replace it in the vehicle tool kit.

Gas filler connection (type TN1)

Filling the gas supply tank

Only use dried natural gas.

The engine could otherwise be damaged.

All manual shutoffs on the electromagnetic shutoff valves must be open when filling the gas supply reservoirs more. Make sure that this is the case, e.g. after maintenance or repairs.

Remove the fuel filler cap.

Check the gas filler connection for damage and remove any dirt.

With the lever in position , attach the refuelling coupling to the gas filler connection.

Markings are located as illustrated.

Turn the lever to position in the direction of the arrow.

The refuelling coupling is locked onto the gas filler connection. Both markings point towards the gas filler connection.

Fill the gas supply tank.

The filling process is ended automatically.

After refuelling, turn the lever in the direction of the arrow to position and remove the refuelling coupling.

Replace the fuel filler cap more.
