Full heater output

Operate the temperature selector at least once or twice every month.

This will ensure its operational reliability.

Use the temperature selector to set the desired temperature.

On vehicles with auxiliary heating: set the temperature selector to position .

Example settings

Demisting the windscreen

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Close the air vents and the heating vents.

The full heater output is only available when the engine has reached operating temperature. If required, switch on the auxiliary heating more.

Heating

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Open the air vents and the heating vents as desired.

If required, switch on the auxiliary heating more.

Ventilation

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Open the roof hatch.

Open the air vents and the heating vents as desired.

Unpleasant odours
Risk of accident

Only switch over to air-recirculation mode briefly if the outside temperature is low. Otherwise, the windows could mist up, thus impairing visibility and endangering you and others. This may prevent you from observing the traffic conditions, thereby causing an accident.

Close the side windows and the roof hatch.

Press the lower section of the air-recirculation switch (recirculated air).

The blower is set from fresh air to recirculated air. The indicator lamp in the switch lights up.

Press the upper section of the air-recirculation switch as soon as possible to set the blower back to fresh air again. This will prevent the windows from misting up.

The blower is set from recirculated air to fresh air. The indicator lamp in the switch goes out.

Air conditioning system

The air-conditioning system cannot be operated unless the engine is running.

At very high outside temperatures, switch on air-recirculation mode more.

Air-conditioning switch

Switch on the air-conditioning system at least once a month for approx. 10 minutes to prevent damage to the air-conditioning compressor.

To switch on the air conditioning: press the bottom of the air conditioning switch.

The indicator lamp in the switch lights up.

To switch off the air conditioning: press the top of the air conditioning switch.

Close the roof hatch.

Open the air vents and the heating vents as desired.

Dehumidifying

Set the switches to the positions shown and also:

Close the roof hatch.

Close the air vents and the heating vents.

Auxiliary heating

Risk of injury

Running the auxiliary heating leads to the emission of hot and toxic exhaust gases.

You should therefore switch off the auxiliary heating in enclosed spaces without an extraction system, e.g. a garage.

Operation of the auxiliary heating system is prohibited at filling stations or when refuelling your vehicle.

The fuel vapours created during refuelling can ignite upon contact with the auxiliary heating's exhaust system. You must therefore switch off the auxiliary heating at filling stations.

If the auxiliary heating is not used for a long period of time, e.g. in summer, deposits can form in the fuel system of the auxiliary heating due to exposure to heat and condensation. These deposits can cause malfunctions to the auxiliary heating. Therefore, have the auxiliary heating checked and repaired at a qualified specialist workshop which has the necessary specialist knowledge and tools to carry out the work required before operating it again. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this purpose.

Switch on the auxiliary heating at least once a month for approx. 10 minutes to avoid damage to the circulation pump.

The auxiliary heating can only be operated with commercially available diesel fuel. Operating it with FAME fuel (bio-diesel fuel) or a mixture of commercially available diesel fuel and FAME fuel (> 10% quantity to be added) can lead to malfunctions and is therefore not permitted.

If the vehicle is operated with FAME fuel (bio-diesel fuel) or a mixture of commercially available diesel fuel and FAME fuel (> 10% quantity to be added) or with natural gas:

An additional fuel tank with commercially available diesel fuel is needed to operate the auxiliary heating.

The auxiliary heating can be operated with or without the engine running. The maximum heating time when stationary is 120 minutes, if the vehicle key is turned all the way back in the ignition lock. There is no limit to the heating time while driving.

If you want to keep the auxiliary heating running permanently, e.g. overnight, turn the vehicle key to the radio position more in the ignition lock.

The auxiliary heating heats the coolant and the vehicle interior, therefore reducing the load on the engine and saving fuel.

Using the buttons of the timer, up to three switch-on times can be programmed at which the auxiliary heating automatically switches on.

Use the auxiliary heating to:

  • preheat the vehicle interior and defrost the windows.

  • better start the engine in cold conditions.

  • augment the vehicle heating at low outside temperatures.

Air distribution and temperature

Turn the temperature selector to position 2 more.

Set the air-distribution switch for the windows to the position.

Adjust the blower switch as desired while driving.

When preheating, the blower is automatically set to level 1.

Adjust the air-distribution switch for the vehicle interior and the air vents as desired.

Auxiliary heating switch

The auxiliary heating switch is on the dashboard.

Auxiliary heating switch

To preheat the vehicle interior: press the bottom of the auxiliary heating switch.

To preheat the coolant and vehicle interior: press the top of the auxiliary heating switch.

The indicator lamp in the switch lights up when the auxiliary heating is switched on.

Timer

The time and weekday are displayed constantly, when the vehicle key is in the drive position in the ignition lock or a switch-on time is preselected.

The timer is located below the instrument cluster.
