Opening and closing

Vehicle key

The vehicle is equipped with a specially coded key system. The engine can only be started using the key coded to the vehicle.

If a vehicle key is lost, obtaining a replacement is a time-consuming process which is only possible through a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.

Mercedes-Benz recommends that you always keep an easily accessible spare key with you for emergencies.

There is a risk of slipping or falling if the access steps and entry sills are dirty or icy.

Keep access steps, entry sills and footwear free from dirt (e.g. mud, clay, snow and ice).

Risk of accident

Do not remove the key from the ignition lock until the vehicle is stationary, as you will no longer be able to steer the vehicle when there is no key in the ignition lock. Remove the key from the ignition lock when you leave the vehicle, even if you are only leaving for a short while.

Children or unauthorised persons could otherwise endanger themselves and others, for example, by activating electrical functions, releasing the parking brake, starting the engine and/or setting the vehicle in motion.

Risk of accident

Do not leave children unsupervised in the vehicle, even if they are secured in a child restraint system. They could:

  • injure themselves on parts of the vehicle

  • be seriously or even fatally harmed by prolonged exposure to intense heat or cold

  • release the parking brake The vehicle could then be set in motion unexpectedly.

If the children open a door, they could:

  • thereby cause injury to other persons

  • get out of the vehicle and thereby injure themselves in the process or they could be injured by passing traffic

  • sustain serious injuries if they were to fall out of the vehicle, due to its height from the ground
