Points to remember

Risk of accident

You must observe the legal requirements for the country in which you are driving when operating a mobile phone in the vehicle. If it is permitted to operate a mobile phone while the vehicle is in motion, only do so when road and traffic conditions allow. You could otherwise be distracted from the traffic conditions, cause an accident and injure yourself and others. For reasons of safety, use only hands-free mode to operate the telephone while the vehicle is in motion. If you use hands-free mode to make a call, you must continue to drive carefully, close all the windows and prevent any disruptive noises. If you wish to make a telephone call without using hands-free mode, you must stop or park the vehicle. Do not stop or park in areas where stopping and parking are forbidden.

	Risk of injury
Excessive electromagnetic radiation may constitute a health hazard to yourself and others. Use of an exterior aerial gives consideration to the current scientific discussion surrounding the possible health risk posed by electromagnetic fields.

 

Your mobile phone

The following description applies to the Nokia E70 mobile phone and provides examples using the COMAND APS telephone system.

Connecting a mobile phone to the telephone system

To establish a connection between the mobile phone and your Mercedes-Benz telephone system via Bluetooth, the mobile phone first needs to be switched on and Bluetooth® needs to be activated on the mobile phone (see the mobile phone operating instructions).

 

Making the mobile phone visible to the Mercedes-Benz telephone system

	Starting from the basic display of the mobile phone, press the menu button. (Menu display and sequence may vary for different software versions.)
	Select "Connections" "Bluetooth" "My phone's visibility" "Show to all".
	The mobile phone is visible to the telephone system.

 

Connecting a mobile phone (authorising)

	To search for a mobile phone: starting from the Mercedes-Benz telephone system's "Telephone" basic menu, select "Data/connections" "Bluetooth telephones" "Update".
	A search for suitable Bluetooth® phones is started.

The duration of the search depends on the number and type of Bluetooth® phones. The search may take up to several minutes.

If the device list is already full, you must de-authorise a previously authorised device; see the operating instructions.

Example

Authorised and currently connected mobile phone (dot, device icon and tick are black)

Authorised but currently undetected mobile phone (dot, device icon and tick are grey)

Newly detected mobile phone detected but not yet authorised (no tick)

	From the phone list, select a mobile phone that has not yet been authorised .
	To enter the passkey: select "Options" "Authorise".
	The input menu for the passkey appears.

The passkey is any one to sixteen-digit number which you can determine yourself. To achieve sufficient security for the telephone connection, please enter at least a four-digit number. You must enter the same number in the telephone system and on the mobile phone to be authorised.

	To enter using the menu bar: use the COMAND controller to highlight digits and confirm the selection.
or
	To enter using the telephone keypad: press the corresponding keys on the keypad and confirm using in the menu bar.
	To delete an entry: select in the menu bar and briefly press the controller.
or
	Select on the telephone keypad.

Once a Bluetooth® connection has been successfully established, the mobile phone will prompt you to take further operating steps.

 

Entering the passcode on the mobile phone

The mobile phone must be visible to the Mercedes-Benz telephone system.

	The dialogue window shows the message (Menu display and sequence may vary for different software versions.) " Passcode for MB Bluetooth:" message.
	Enter the same passkey as for the Mercedes-Benz telephone system.
	Confirm the passcode with "OK".
	The "Accept connection request from MB Bluetooth?" message appears.
	Select "Yes".
	The "Connected to MB Bluetooth" message appears.

The display of the telephone system shows the name of the mobile phone once the connection has been established successfully.

 

Adjusting the volume

Find out about the optimal volume settings for your mobile phone at your Mercedes-Benz Service Centre or on the Internet at http://www.mercedes-benz.com.

Changing these settings can severely impair the transmission quality. These settings cannot be adjusted during an active phone call.

To adjust the volume of the mobile phone:

• Bluetooth® must be activated on the mobile phone; see the mobile phone operating instructions.

• the mobile phone must be connected to the Mercedes-Benz telephone system via Bluetooth®.

	Starting from the "Telephone" basic menu of the Mercedes-Benz telephone system, select "Data/connections" "Bluetooth telephones".
	Select the mobile phone from the list.
	Select "Options" "Reception volume" or "Transmission volume" and confirm.

To adjust the volume: slide the controller up/down and press briefly when the desired volume is reached.

 

Importing contacts automatically

If basic telephony via Bluetooth® is activated, the contacts (phone book entries) of the corresponding phone are imported automatically into the COMAND phone book.

Depending on the mobile phone, this process may take some time. Depending on the mobile phone, either the phone book entries are imported alone or together with SIM card entries.

 

Receiving and sending vCards

vCards can only be received in the Mercedes-Benz telephone system and sent from the mobile phone if:

• Bluetooth® must be activated on the mobile phone; see the mobile phone operating instructions.

• the mobile phone is connected to the Mercedes-Benz telephone system via Bluetooth®.

 

Receiving vCards

Starting from the "Telephone" basic menu of the Mercedes-Benz telephone system, select "Data/connections" "Download contacts", "Via Bluetooth".

The Mercedes-Benz telephone system receives mobile phone vCards and the number of imported vCards is displayed.

To stop reception: briefly press the controller or the back button.

 

Sending vCards from a mobile phone

	Starting from the basic display of the mobile phone, press the menu button. (Menu display and sequence may vary for different software versions.)
	Select "Contacts".
	Select the entry to be sent.
	Select "Options".
	Select "Send" "Send: Via Bluetooth".
	Select the name of your Mercedes-Benz telephone system "MB Bluetooth".
	The messages "Connecting" and "Sending data" appear. The vCard is transmitted to the Mercedes-Benz telephone system. Upon completion, the "Data Sent" message is displayed.

 

Software update

If your mobile phone does not function in conjunction with the universal hands-free system, check your mobile phone's firmware version.

To check the current firmware version of your mobile phone:

Enter the key combination *#0000#.
